what happened at the end? my tape cut off :(

hey, i taped this off the television and i guess it must've gone on longer than it said, 'cause i was just watching it and it cut off :(

i got to the bit where the boy is sitting on the dock and that seagull starts bothering him, so he starts strangling it (!). just before that he'd been walking through the streets of koktebel with all the tourists.

i can't imagine there was very much left, but i'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me what happened as it's a pretty obscure film and i doubt i'd be able to find it anywhere.

The boy's father appears, sits down, and that's it.

Yes, that's what happens-- it's not clear whether he kills the bird in the end, though it does seem like it.

Then a minute later, his father is on the dock. He walks up and sits down next to him. They both look ahead to the sea.

The tag line helped me appreciate what had happened--
Sometimes it's necessary to walk 1000 kilometers to find someone that's close to you.

I don't think he killed it - you could quite clearly hear the noise of it flapping away when he released it.
