One of the most disturbing documentaries I have seen

Now, I am not of the age to have seen these films, but this documentary was sickening to watch. I thought it might be funny, an eye to a world before my time. What I got was more like Faces of Death. Seeing these films is watching real people die in agony while cameras are watching. I understand the point in trying to get the message across to people of that era, but these are hardcore death scenes! I couldn't imagine what people thought of these films in the 50s and 60s!!!

This film made me sick and really made me wonder what the makers of these "safety videos" intended.

I saw Signal 30 when I was 15 years old, and was totally shocked and grossed out. Don't know that it changed my driving habits, though.

it sounds like what the episode of beavis and butthead where they were in drivers ed and they watched 2 guys just like them try to beat a big rig and got tboned by the rig. butthead says 'woe his brain fell out' with a that was radical attitude.

P.S.: don't take it hard, just shake your head and laugh

reply

Laugh? I dont think thats appropriate.Yes,most of these crashes and deaths are stupid mistakes on the driver's part...it was their fault, but thats no reason to laugh at death.40,000 people have died per year since the late 50s,and I betcha none of those 40,000 (x50)ever thought they would die behind the wheel. We like to poke fun at the shortcomings of others, because we believe they were far stupider than us,and nothing like that could ever happen to us (you/me).It can happen. It happens everyday.Just yesterday a driver nearby hit a moose. It ripped back the roof and 800 lbs of bull moose crushed the face and chest of a 31 year old female driver. She never saw it coming.Did she forsee her demise? Should we laugh at her final moments? Tommorrow it could be any of us.Take these films seriously. They are the dying final moments of unfortunate humans. No matter what caused their crashes (alcohol, speed)it makes no difference. They are dead, and wont ever be coming back.

He didn't say laugh at it, that comment was his sig.

LOL! What about the episode of The Simpsons where Homer had to go back to traffic school?

I agree with madmadhatter. This was a disturbing documentary. Not just because of the troubling driver's ed films, but some of the other disturbing "educational" films depicted here, including child molester movies, which were real stomach turners.

Well, it won't wok for everybody, because there's always the idiot who thinks nothing can happen to them or makes a big joke out of the destruction of a car wreck.

But I know for a fact that it did work for many in our drivers ed classes in regards to being more careful about how we drove, since we got to see these films back in the 70s.
