Ken Walker

This great man Ken Walker, can anyone tell me more about him? I love his answer to that nitwit mayor of Calgary: a good belt on the gob. Why in the world should musicians work for free? Why should they not be paid for their valuable work like anyone else??? Sheer idiocy if you ask me.

Anyhow, this film is amazing – really! Manuel singing lead on “I shall be released” is a once in a lifetime musical gemstone; it will never happen again!

Hi Cine!

I found this link earlier this morning and sort of skimmed over it, it seemed to cover a lot of the same territory as the film and I assumed it was related to the release of the film. However in looking at the article a second time, I just realized this is from a newspaper article from the year 2000, three years before the film was released! In reading it more closely, it provides some different viewpoints of the same events and is worthy reading.

Not much more information about Ken Walker except to say it looks like he became much more of a private businessman and citizen after the concerts. Perhaps he has just left the public eye with his later pursuits.

About the same time I came into contact with 'Festival Express' for the first time, my cable provider had a film called 'John and Yoko's Year of Peace'. Here is the IMDB link, which I just located with a little bit of digging into the memory banks:

This broadcast was done by the CBC originally and did cover the Toronto music festival that Ken Walker says he was a part of and claims credit for getting Lennon and Ono involved in. My memory is they interview other people associated with that festival but I do not remember Ken being featured in that way. I have very vague memories of maybe seeing Ken in some of the news footage of the time (press conferences perhaps), but I say that without full confidence that that is true. Hopefully it will play again on my cable provider or maybe someone else can fill in some gaps.

Seemed like a bit of an idiot for punching the Mayor - somewhat excessive force.
He mentioned in a bonus interview on the dvd that he was twice the Mayor's size too.
And if you notice, a lot of his stories involve him telling people off, demanding his way, or either punching or throwing people downstairs.
The Festival was a cool event though and if he ever does another one, I doubt he could get away with those shinanagins.
