in this day and age

If my white boyfriend asked me if i told my mom and dad about him being white, i would break up with his a s s. Actaully I find this a bit offensive, I mean, there is more to a person than thier skin colour.I guess this movie would not be the same if it was Zoe going to Ashtons parents and them "discovering" she is a bw. This movie is just stupid.

You have nothing better to worry about ? ?

How is this movie stupid when interracial marriage is still rare?

Btw, the opposite situation was the original version of this.

In the context of the movie it does turn out to be an issue so that kind of negates your argument a little. Her father assumed the black taxi driver was Simon and vice versa. He even enjoyed the suggestive quip 'I dunno but I'd sure like to try' when he asked the cab driver if he was making his daughter happy whereas the mere thought of Simon and his daughters sexual relationship bothered him so it would seem appropriate that she should have said it before hand.

I think you may be discounting the true nature of racism/classism in our society. It DOES make a difference to a LOT of people and I don't know anybody that would not have some questions forming in their heads about meeting the family of someone they planned to marry. It's true that there are many other factors that "characterize" a person, but the skin color/ethnicity/culture is one of those.

I would be more inclined to agree with your comment if they were not living together or planning to announce an engagement. I have known people who've "lost" their whole family of origin by marrying someone outside their race. In a casual relationship or friendship, it's fine. A more serious relationship and/or marriage is a different story.
