There aren't that many genuinely good gay movies out there. Can any body recommend some?

summer storm was very good.
try "eighteen" as well as "mysterious skin"; both are excellent.
The Wedding Banquet by Ang Lee is excellent.
If you like Spanish films, try some of Pedro Almodóvar's older films, like "La ley del deseo" ("Law of Desire" in English).

shareI'm surprised no one's mentioned Jeffrey yet. They're actually fairly similarly styled movies, even down to the fantasy musical number and ironic use of the gay pride statues. But they're both wonderful, in very different ways, IMO.

Will definitely put Mysterious Skin and Swoon on my to do list. Craig Chester is so remarkable. I actually ended up doing a CT Tweets About (segment on my writing website) with a Adam & Steve/Jeffrey double feature last night. Feel free to take a peak if you like. There will be spoilers, but for the most part it's just impressions of moments and performances.
