Stupid Question, but... How did Russell and Ellie meet?

I missed the episode where Russell and Ellie meet and I was wondering if anyone could fill me in. Thanks!

they met in a cafe russel was looking at her & he came over to her i dont find ellie pretty magda is very pretty & nadine is quite pretty

In the book, they met in McDonalds. Russell was sketching Ellie, so the girls dared her to start sketching him and then he came over and started chatting.

I think Ellie is prettier in the TV series than she is meant to look in the book. In the series she is not chubby at all and she is quite pretty.
