Comic Book?

Was this show based on a comic book? I know it went from web flash to cartoon network but before all that... did it originate in a comic book? I saw some advertisement awhile back to buy the comic, it had a more indy feel with the art (in addition to Gary looking more like a rat than a cartoon rat). Lost the link unfortunately.
