This looks like a porno

It looks like soft porn trying to pass itself off as meaningful historical mystery.

reply

Given the backstory of the case itself, what else would it be?

reply

Um, are you sure you know what you're talking about? Just because she had a lot of boyfriends around that time doesn't mean the "back story" was that she was a sleazy person or going around with everyone in the movie business or something like that. If you're referring to the sexual nature of the crime, well, that just goes with every murder of this type. Doesn't make this movie like a "soft-core porno."

reply

I don't think it looks at all like a porno. It may have some fetish themes and some sexual imagery, but that would make sense perhaps. It oddly enough looks like a modern noir film, but with more surrealism going on in it or something.

looks like a soft core because some of the "actors" have been in porn films. ie julie strain.

reply

She's more of a B-movie actress, but I can see how they might be using that to maybe subvert their audience's expectations like Eyes Wide Shut or something. I dunno.

reply

She never had sexv 9volutarily) because she couldn't had sex. Something was wrong with her vagina.

reply

Urban legend.

Sounds like an STV or more likely an MFC (made for cable). Soft-core thesps often turn up in ultra-low-budget flicks that -- believe it or not -- are often shot in Hollyweird, using abandoned backlots, existing sets and even lots of stock footage (Jim Wynorski, anyone?). I have seen tons of these. My favorites usually star B-level players like Wings Hauser and Gary Busey and that other Gary who often starred in his own flicks. By the way, one of the greatest of these often-abysmal films was a STAR WARS knockoff starring English legend Christopher Lee, made the same year as STAR WARS. And I saw this classic in a drive-in theater! Footage from that film also turned up in films made as late as a decade later. One of them starred the guy who had played "Ben Casey" on early TV. Roger and Julie Corman were often behind these atrocities.

Could be... it's hard to tell. It's obviously low-budget, but from everything I have seen it looks more arty than a B-movie. I would even say it looks "arthouse" or whatever. The website has gotten a lot better that's for sure. I posted it before, but it's www.theblackdahliamovie.com (looks like they got it before Universal, because that one is dot net.) Anyway, it's all confusing. But I bet it doesn't have a dildo scene in it like the De Palma film. The acting in that movie was very porno. My bet is this movie will kick ass.

LOL.

reply

Lloyd Kaufman is in it. End of story.

reply

This is true, but so are people like Cinque Lee, Caveh Zahedi, David J and Robert Williams. It seems like a tribute to the underground. Also did you see the official website? It along with the new trailer seem a far stretch from a troma-type movie. It looks more intriguing than Ulli Lommel's film, that's for sure though. Actually, after seeing the De Palma film also this one might blow them all away. Who knows for sure

reply

That is so funny. My partner and I popped the movie in to watch it and both said the same thing "it looks like a porno....only because of the low quality and poor acting, which I know I know it is an indie movie ok ok.

reply

Again, I still haven't seen it, but you must be talking about the Ulli Lommel film and not this one, because this movie has not been released yet. The confusion is gonna probably kill Abed's film, which is really too bad because it looks so much better than these other Black Dahlia movies, especially the Lommel version everybody's talking about.

reply

I rented it from Blockbuster. I thought it could be a good parellel movie to the big time version of the Black Dahlia. And no it was not. It mostly consisted of too long of portionsof torture. And I rented this for my family and we all just stared and did not talk after. Not an intellectual film at all. Just a B type movie that merges on soft porn. And this is for the Ulli Lommel version because there is no area on imdb.com that has his version up. So do not get confused.

Update: The Lommel version is also called "Zodiac Killer" go there if you want to complain.

reply

Don't add to the confusion...Zodiac Killer & Black Dahlia are two different cases.

reply

this is def. a pron, i know i was jerking the whole movie.

reply

haha my friend's mom rented this for us, thinking it was the new version, which isn't even on dvd yet. we were surprised, thinking "wow, this is already on dvd?" uhm, no. took us 5 minutes, to the beginning of the first torture sequence, to see this was no scarlett johansson flick. eesh. <--ulli lommel version notes

hasn't anyone ever told you that smoking was bad for you?

no..no one..THANK YOU.

reply

Damn, even though it's a different movie from this one (the Ramzi Abed film), I feel like I have to see this Ulli Lommel film because it's caused so much controversy between all the different Black Dahlia movies. I just hope Abed's film gets released eventually on dvd or in theatres.
