Why'd they make two in a row?
Seems a little silly if you ask me.
shareWell, there's the 2006 one directed by Brian De Palma which is based off the James Ellroy novel WHICH IS FICTION. De Palma likes to take real LA cases and write books about them, changing several of the facts of the case. So that movie isn't about Elizabeth Short AT ALL. He uses her story as a backdrop for his own plot.
The one by Ramzi Abed, renamed The Devil's Muse, is actually about Beth. And I think his has actually been in the works longer.
Yeah, well I think you mean Ellroy mainly, right? He's the one who wrote the book that the De Palma film was based on. Yeah, his stories have more to do with his own personal ghosts and feelings about women than anything else probably. I think this one has been a more passionate portrait of sorts. Hopefully it will be interesting and unique enough to make for a fitting movie about Beth. Or at least inspired by her real character.
