Garbage! Truly Garbage!

(Spoilers) This movie was absolutely terrible. First off I see so many people trying to explain the movie to others. Here is the best explanation of them all. ITS RUBBISH! The movie was crap, the acting was a joke, and the plot had more holes than Dr Logan from Day of the Dead.

First off how is she the nun when Joanna died in Europe and Eva was still in school? Also how is she the nun when shes no where near Gabriel when he dies? Its not an accident, the handle turned itself on-- on its own. Let me guess she's magic too.

Second, the acting in this movie was almost as bad as the freaking crappy CGI nun that was floating around. Anita Briem's (Eva) acting was a joke. The whole movie she had the same expression on her face. Whether she was watching a girl get decapitated, making out with a soon to be priest, or at her mother's funeral she had the same expression. She had to have known the director because there is no way she won this part out over anybody, either that or nobody showed up since the script was junk...... By the way, shes from New York and has the heaviest European (Icelandic) accent..... And the cops had the same accent also.

Third the story was crap. If you find out your going to get shoved into an oven do you go off by yourself into a room with a large walk in oven? STUPID! The lake gets drained and now the water in New York has a nun in it? STUPID! If Eva is the killer and the water has nothing to do with then why are toilets bubbling over and faucets spraying when people die? Make up your mind! Is it Eva killing people (like they show at the end) or is it supernatural. Or is Eva able to liquify herself also.... WOW. Ohh and be careful! When you slam on your brakes your car will die......... and cell phones don't work..... and you just happen to have water spears (that dont even get hot or damaged when you pry them out of a cooked girl's hand that was just in an oven) and underwater flashlights in your car.

Overall this movie was garbage. Truly crap. The script was awful, the acting was hillarious, and the effects are junk. Please avoid!

Totally agree, this movie sucked BIG TIME! But the thing about real vs. supernatural. I believe it is said in the movie that it is the ghost of the Nun using Eva to kill. So it is both real and supernatural. But there are so many holes in this plot.

Anyone have a Fpoon I could borrow?

I didn't find the movie that bad, although the complaints of it being a little predictable (or a lot, depending on how many horror films you watch) are probably quite justified. It did follow a formula- but they have 'formulas' because they work. Hey, only one horse can win the kentucky derby every year, and only the best are running in it... this is not that horse. ;) It's a good film in my eyes, but yes, both low budget and heavily influenced by it's spanish roots.

I think a key misunderstanding of folks posting about the plot twist inconsistancy of even being the nun, was that he was saying that the nun was posessing her somehow, coming to life through her... Remember too, that there were TWO harpoons (the bag contained scuba gear, including 'thermally resistant' harpoons intended for warm or ice water.) in the water. One was dropped/thrown by the other girl.

It was probably meant as a plot twist that would provoke thought. Did the nun finally go down with this resolution? (it wasn't a WOODEN spear, it was a harpoon... did Eve die, or was she rescued?) The boy himself says "...or something like that, that's all I can think of..." leaving it open to interpretation.

I think the clue here is that they really made a lot of things open to interpretation because they wanted to play on the old catholic belief in latino countries that a baby doesn't GET a soul untill the 'quickening' (when it first moves in the womb). Clearly the girl was not that pregnant yet, and that would have left the unborn fetus as a vulnerable subject. They also have beliefs about such children (born of forbidden unions like those of a priest and nun or similar) are born with supernatural powers.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a sequel come out, featuring Eve as some kind of ghost-hunter, with gabriel as a spirit to guide her... that too, would be very spanish, lorewise.
