Mickey is a mouse, Donald a duck, and what the hell is Goofy?

Mickey "Mouse," Donald "Duck," Goofy "What ? " and if Goofy is a dog. Why is Mickey mistreating another dog, Pluto, like a retard he being naked and in a leash. That doesn't bother Goofy at all? Maybe Goofy is a bull since he dated Clarabelle the Cow.

So what does that make Roger Rabbit? I mean he's married to a human Toon.

Goofy began in 1932 as Dippy Dawg, so he's technically dog-like. However, he changed through the 40s and 50s, becoming "The Goof" and finally ending up as the "Goofy" we all know and love. So don't think of him as a dog anymore. He's a goof, and that's all there is to it!

Well, considering that Pete is a dog, the Beagle Boys are dogs, and a number of the supporting cast characters are dogs, one can only assume that Pluto is a member of less advanced species of dog. Chip and Dale used to be naked unspeaking animals, too, don't forget. There must be people-animals and animal-animals.

Pete IS NOT a dog. He is a cat. The first foe of a little mouse was intended to be a big cat.

reply

Peg-leg Pete may have been a cat back in the day of Steamboat Willie, but he's sure evolved in a more dog-like direction since the days of being Goofy's neighbor and all that jazz...

Even granting Pete as a cat, the Beagles are certainly dogs. (Even if they don't look a thing like beagles...)

Besides, in the Disney world there are other examples of animals and animals versus animals as people. There are birds who flit around and sing, and then there are also ducks who are people. There are cows who get milked and bulls who get fought, and then there's Clarissa.

And moreover, don't forget that Goofy's original concept was, "Dippy Dawg." He's a dog. Pluto's a different kind of dog.

Pete is interesting because he is actually the oldest returning Disney character - 3 years older than Mickey. And in those years he was a black bear. Although, once Mickey took the scene they made him into a black cat (the natural foe of the mouse) and he has been this ever since. Which is also fitting when he opposes Goofy in later years (as Goofy is a dog; a cats natural opponent). Anyways, if we ignore his size, his face has clear catlike features, like e.g. his ears.

Goofy's a dog, but they also portray him as somewhat of a human. You'll notice that in nearly all Goofy cartoons, all the people are 'goofs' instead of all different animals. When they want to make a cartoon about something pertaining to the human world, they usually use a goof. I remember one cartoon about good health that had a goof, not sure if it was Goofy, smoking. o-o I mean, it was showing that smoking was bad, but still. It was kinda weird. xD

I always thought of Goofy as a non-domesticated dog. There are anthropomorphic animals and then there are regular animals.

Humans are animals as well complete with ape cousins. Don't want to get religious vs. scientific here, but when you take that into consideration it's not that hard to think of goofy and pluto the same way.

Stuff like this reminds me of "Movie Poop Shoot.com" from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Going back to my "Disney" trained answer. It's simple. They are "actors" playing roles. Goofy theoretically is no longer a dog but is actually classified now as a "Goof".
