What was his reason for ordering the initial assassination of Tony? It seems a perfect relationship: Tony doesn't care about what the company is actually doing, but still turns out tech, leaving Obediah in charge. Why would he want to change that?
shareI don't think it was perfect. Tony seemed to be very conscious of limiting the sales of weapons and not double-dealing by selling them under the table to the bad-guys. Obediah wanted not only the whole pie, with Tony gone, but also an expanded market.
He said something about his real feelings about Tony during their brawl on the street.

Obadiah wanted it all, nothing inhibiting him. The way it was, Tony could still have found out. Killing Tony the way he planned would have taken care of everything. The board would have kept him in charge, and allowed him to do everything he wanted.
