Only if they were completely and utterly oblivious to the media attention it was given through out the film. I mean even if they weren't even from the area at all they had to of heard of the killings.

It's a fact that Bryan and Cecelia didn't know it was Zodiac when confronted by him at Berryessa - they thought he was just some weirdzo robber.
shareActually, in real life, the Lake Berryessa killing was still a fairly recent event. The Zodiac only *really* became feared and prominent in the local media after (1) he shot a cabbie in San Francisco, leaving the then rural North Bay, and (2) he started to threaten schoolchildren coming off school buses (which inspired the screenwriters in a later film, "Dirty Harry")

shareAccording to the book, they kids DID see someone off in the distance but being teenagers they figured nothing bad could happen to them.
Let's face it, even if they got up & left as soon as they noticed someone else was around, Zodiac most likely would have chased them. They weren't very close to their car so they were pretty much sitting ducks out there all alone with a maniac.
Fair enough, I suppose. I was taking the pish out of the way the film portrayed it, rather than the actual event itself.
Funnily enough, I've just got the new-er Zodiac in from Lovefilm!
In fact that's the best moment of the movie, when you see the killer approaching in the distance. You can't see that in any horror movie! Very creepy.

It was like the scene in the "The Strangers", where the killer is seen in the background, was stolen from it.
I agree as soon as he his behind the tree I would've been up & on my feet going WTF
