Okay... so the movie was cliche' like all the other serial killer movies. but it had nice cinematography and a creepy musical score. not to mention a decent cast. and scary death scenes. I have it on dvd and watch it every Christmas. :-)
~I love the rhythmn it is my methoood!~

I enjoy the film as well. If people say anything negative about it, it's probably because they prefer Fincher's take on the material a lot better.
I don't know why, either. I saw the other one a few years ago and have been wanting to see this one as well. Just found it at a flea market and decided now was the time. I liked both versions as I did with Capote and Infamous. I guess some people think you have to choose between the two. It was a well done period piece for its modest budget. The score was decent and sounded like it came from http://immediatemusic.com/
Now if similar treatment could be given to a movie about a crime wave that plagued San Francisco in '73-'74 known as the Zebra Murders/Killings. That was an interesting but pretty much forgotten case.
Because it was lame and extremely fictionalized. I grew up in the Bay Area when the Zodiac was on the loose. This movie was a joke.
shareI think the zodiac movie could have been great of they used elements from both movies. Obviously Fincher had a bigger budget but it was a dialogue driven movie with no climax and all the scary scenes happened before the first half. It just focussed on the investigation.
I think this movie should have kept the real names, locations and places. And rather then having a detective and his son interested in the case it could have been Robert Graysmith and his son.
I love the ending of this movie. It added fear to the audience. That there is a serial killer on tune lose and there is nothing they can do about it.
Finchers movie kept dragging on and you knew the murders were done hears ago.
