Maybe the worst disease there is....

You gamble, you win, you're courted, you lose and when the money is gone, you are treated no better than the next sheet on a roll of toilet paper...

I agree. Gambling can get very addicting and people need to be very careful.

If you don't know what you're doing, you have no business being in a casino. If the Delta Burke character had not become addicted to slot machines, it would have been something else. The trouble is in the person's psyche. Moreover, if gamblers quit when they were ahead, there'd be no more casinos. A pit boss at the Mirage admitted as much.

Its not the strongest addiction -- that honour probably goes to Heroin -- and its not the most common addiction -- that honour goes to caffine -- and its not the deadliest addiction -- that honour goes to solvents (glue sniffing). But it is the most expensive addiction with losses often in the hundreds of thousands. rbk520, its not just in the person's psyche. There are factors that make some people more vulnerable, but no one is immune from an addition. Casinos are cleverly designed to maximize the chance of making a profit... this often entails offering more addictive games such as slot machines and blackjack, rather than less addictive games such as bingo.

Well the same can be said for smoking or drinking. If it was done in moderation, there would be ALOT less $$$ spent on beer and tobaco.
