Nationality of Muppets

I was watching Leno last night and this is what was said about the nationalities of various Muppets on Sesame Street

Burt - Dominican
Ernie - Short for Ernesto - Puerto Rican
Animal - Mexican
Big Bird - Vietnamese Transexual

I'm not joking, perhaps they were, especially with what they said about Big Bird.

Based on their accents, I'd guess Bert was German, Ernie was Canadian, Animal Chinese, and Big Bird Cuban.
