Sorry,

but I just dind't get the end.
That whole movie (at least for that time that I watch it) was kind of fantastic, but the cut from the pool into the robbery scene was something I just dind't get.
Could someone please explain it to me? (maybe in english oder in Deutsch ou en francais).

The poster below me largely hit the nail on the head, although I differ in two ways. One, I loved the movie. Two, I think that not only the combination of alcohol and sedative drugs set Hussein off, but the indulgance into the upper class lifestyle only reinforced the fact that he was never going to be any better off. This, I think, is what made him so irrationally try to rob the store. He should have listened to the con man's advice at the restaurant, to always know (in crime) exactly what you are doing before you are doing it.

Amazing,
Crimson Gold is a nice picture of how the social life is in Iran(Tehran).
Not many people in europe and US can or would go there so this film perfectly pictures the atmosphere of sadness and poverty in such rich country.

--------------Spolier-------------

I must say this film isn't only about social difficulties but also very politicaly critisizing the Iranian regime, that's why is was banned in Iran.

The ending:
Hussein was in the Iran/Iraq war(The short conversation with one of the people who he delivers food to) and the reason of his illness might be because of the chemical weapons the iraqies used in the war, by being in that war as all the other people who died or got disabilities they defended their families and people.
But it is many years after the war and he has nothing in his life, he works very hard like the other 60 mil people but the fact that there are rich people who does nothing and have everything is the trigger that makes him attempt to rob the juvelry.

The reason that he always is sad is that he knows that he is living in an unbalanced country which there is no way for him or people like him to live in peace and achieve some of their dreams.
I don't think it was alcohol that made him do it. He was simply fed up!

Good point. Of course Hussein's decision to rob the jewellery shop was more to do with humiliation and pride than business, which the con man was making a point about too.
Why do you refuse to remember me?
