The protagonist in real life is actually a paranoid schizophrenic.

I'm not implying anything how this illness could affect his ability to act however I must say I was shocked because of Hussein's stoic behavior captured on film made me believe that this actor's went through exhausting endurance of his acting ability until I read Ebert's review to find out that he is actually a non actor paranoid schizophrenic.

This is what attracted me to the film. A recent review in a UK paper discussed the use of non-actors in films and this was one of the two films singled out with the ebst delivery by a non-actor.

Why do you refuse to remember me?

I think that his stoic behavior and lack of discernible personality was because of his schizophrenia.
