Is This A Good Movie Or is it Porno?

I saw this movie at the Philadelphia Gay & Lesbian Film Festival(07-17-05). I have to say that the film was pretty good. It was more a character study of nine peoople than a traditional story. The segment about the dysfunctional couple was the most interesting, albeit disturbing segment and Debra Wilson gave a stand out performance as a pregnant woman whose husband harbors a dark secret. I wish the film would have given more time to her character and the character of the husband.

The director deliberately chose to use graphic sex as a way of telling the story. I'm curious to the folks out in cyberspace... If you saw this movie, do you think that the sex scenes were neccesary or do your think that it went overboard and that it was porno? I liked the movie. I'm interested in what others who have seen it think.

It was not porno, but I agree it was graphic, explicit and a very unique way of telling a few non-traditional stories with the traditional. I liked it. RF, Denton, TX

not graphic unless you consider a quick glance of semi-erection porno...

It's only porno if you would consider sex scenes from movies like BODY HEAT, BASIC INSTINCT or THE COLOR OF NIGHT to be porno. It's only shocking because it's same sex, and not because it's all that explicit. I thought the scenes were well-done and necessary to the story, but porno? Not even close.

reply

No - the story is far too simplistic and obvious (as well as dated for a 2004 release) to be considered good. However, given that there is no penetration and given the subject matter and character's lives, while you could question if the nudity and sexuality is always necessary, its certainly not pornographic.

You can certainly make the argument that it's just not very good.

reply

Okay then...........make the argument that it's not very good.
