The Last line always bugs me!

The last lien of thsi movie always bugs me. Peter says "So what are you going to do with the rest of your life" and I always thought it would have better if he said "What are we going to do with the rest of our lives."
He said previously that he was jsut taking tme off and finding himslef etc... and I think to imply they were going searching together would have just made the movie a tiny bit better.

Tdakoo,
It took me putting a lot of thought into this question too. But what I think it was, was because she had closed the trunk with all the exes stuff in it, and her timeline. Since that had to do with her, and he knew about it, and she finally completed the timeline, what did SHE want to do with the rest of her life made sense.

I just wish I didn't have to think about it that much! lol

I know, I agree with you.

What bugs me is not the last line of the movie but the stupid grin on her face when he says it. Other than that one thing I loved this movie.

I hate it too. It strikes a false note because Pete was never condescending as he sounds here and, as you said, they are embarking on a journey together. Apart from that, the line talks down to the audience and is completely unnecessary. Pete already got that message across in the Sooke Harbor Hotel.

Your suggestion would have been an improvement, but I think the most effective ending would have been wordless. She locks the box, gives it to him as she gets up off the bed, and together they resolutely stuff the box under the bed or out of sight. Then as they stand up, she or he pushes the other playfully on the bed, pounce, and out.

He says this in reference to the conversation they had when she disclosed the timeline to him after they slept together. (She had upset him by telling him he was number six, and she was waiting for number 7. The timeline ended there, and he asked her, "Then what? What are you going to do with the rest of your life?" ---without a guide to tell her what to do.)

^^^This. He knew she was sorting through her box before he came in the room and locking everything up. That line is meant to reference the conversation that had when he asked her what she was going to do after she found number seven...because beyond finding "the one" her life is no longer mapped out by her mother. Now she gets to choose how her life turns out.
