Thought the anime was overrated

I just failed to see the depth that was supposed to exist in this series. Besides, it made no sense and I dont understand exactly why the two loved each other in the first place...

Do not question Uncle!

i agree. this anime is a piece of *beep* waste of time. glad it was only 20 min

In 20min it's nearly impossible to acheive any depth. Also the lack of dialogue and simply unimpressive soundtrack kill any interest in the film.
Frankly I didn't find it sad or moving, just arrousing of curiosity which is then killed by a poorely timed and though out ending.
A film with good ideas but not nearly enough ambition to give the viewer a decent experience, and that leaves one frustraded wanting to know more while wishing to have never watched it.

This is just my opinion and you regard it as stupid but this is less a film and more like a work of art in my opinion. It is only 25 minutes, and you may not learn every aspect of the characters but somehow this film/piece of art still mamanges to be a masterpiece based on what it is. You don't know the personality and background to everybody in a picture or sculpture yet people still regard them as masterpieces.

I have to agree--I think people are completely mis-approaching this film.
As a 25-minute film, it's the short story equivalent of a novel. One doesn't compare, say, Ray Bradbury's short story (forget the title, about the students on Venus experiencing sunshine one day a year, and the kid is locked in the closet,) with say The Lord of the Rings.
Likewise, one shouldn't be comparing "Voices" with "Grave of the Fireflies" (a comparison I'm seeing a lot on this board.)

I thought "Voices" was interesting (amazing for a one-person job on their PC,) and pretty, and had some wonderful visual poetry.
BUT, at the end, I was seriously disappointed because of how much it had been blown up on the Intertubes. People clamoring about it being the "best anime, evah!" And I'm sorry, but it it so not. Even "My Friend Totoro" was better in so many ways. "Paranoia Agent" made me feel 100-times more emotional at the end than this little snippet-anime, "Voices."

If no one were to overblow it, and use ridiculous and exaggerated hyperbole when describing "Voices," I think more people would appreciate it for what it is.
A wonderful short story! But not even close to being worthy of "best anime, evah!"

It's pretty good considering it's only 25 minutes. The plot was simple and subtle ans the visuals were awesome! I think watching it is an excellent use of 25 minutes of my time. And even without the separation-of-lovers-through-earth-and-space thing, the story is something a lot of people can identify with. Though personally, I would have stayed on earth. But then again, if all the people who piloted the tracers said that then who would stop the Tarsian, right?

I thought it was crap. Its only 20 minutes and 3 minutes in i was bored. It has some pretty animations here and there but the story was just pure *beep* WHo the hell are these people who love this?

I might sound pretentious, by all means don't force yourself to read this. In 25 minutes something was captured perfectly. An aspect of love, one of the most bitter sides within love. There are so many things that could be noted about the film and many questions that one can ask but most of them are unimportant. It might be a good idea to clarify that the main purpose of Voices is probably not to entertain.

I could try to explain what the author tried to transmit but you should know that love is completely unfathomable from the outside, to depths that the human mind isn't meant to comprehend. In other words, you cannot trully grasp the point of this film without being trully in love; you've probably heard this before but you don't have to believe it. I suppose you could say that ´Voices´ holds a grain of truth within it.

All that aside, I would have to agree that a statement like "It's one of the best '_' ever" or such is a plain and simple lie. Voices is uncompareable to anything else. It just stands alone from everything else. It does not require you to analyze it, evaluate it or calculate it; it requires only to experience it. Trying to compare Voices to another anime is equal to comparing a baby's laughter to a sunset if you follow what I'm saying. If you think about it carefully you stand nothing to gain from comparing you're favourite song to your second favourite song, there is nothing to learn from that.

If my words were of no help to you do me a favour. Forget about it. It was only 25 minutes. If you want, watch it again in 5 years time and if you do expect absolutely nothing. Maybe you'll get what I mean or maybe you'll feel you wasted another 25 minutes. Such is life.

As to why two people would fall in love, that is a mystery.
