Exhumed...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just picked up Exhumed today, i have heard lotsa good things about it but for some reason i just never got around to checkin it out. Well i picked it up for a reasonable $8 and some change (after tax and twizzlers) at suncoast. Yah so i just watched the first segment "Shi no Mori" and paused it to write this while its fresh in my mind. Now coming into this thing im a huge fan of both Asian horror flicks and im all over anything China is spitting out as far as kung fu flix go. And i love asian zombie flicks -almost, as much as much as italian zombie movies. As for "Shi no Mori" its not much different, i was glued to it from beginning to end. Some pretty decent amateur gore merged with the acceptable plot which is actually very intriguing and although the stereotypical character frames have been seen a thousond times, they fill that frame pretty damn good. In the short time that we know Zentaro & Ryuzo we are given enough information to make us interested and actually care what happens. Maybe its just that all flicks where subs come into play, your forced to use your imagination a bit more which strengthens your bond with that character. Thats the secret to getting people to care what happens to your characters you must get them thinking about them good or bad. The acting was pretty solid as well. My only real problem with this flick is the Takashi Miike-esque ending ending where your left with a ? mark once again forcing you to use your imagination. Usually i dont mind, but in a short i want some closure on that sucker. Did the zombie bite turn our antagonist turned hero to brainsucking slime? Or did he walk off into the sunset to fight another day? Maybe somebody will give these guys some money and they can continue Z mans journey. Who knows. Ill try and update the other two stories tonite but ill prob be to lazy and have to do it later. In any case i enjoyed "Shi no Mori" and would probably suggest at bare minimum a rental just for the first story. Ill update other 2 segments later.

For a start, it is obvious that you worked on this film. No one else would bother to write such a detailed account (and indeed no one else would be bothered enough to read it).

Secondly, I respect low budget film makers when they produce the goods. Take a look at Attack Of The Beast Creatures, Camp Blood, or The Suckling for example. You guys should learn a thing or two from them if you want to make an ENTERTAINING low budget film.

Exhumed lacks on most levels. There's a little bit of fun splatter in the first segment but it soon gets boring.

The second of the three stories is a film noir and is unusual although the ending is disappointing. The other two episodes are in my opinion very low-level stuff.
