For EQ fans... Why not UV too?
Just wondering, what do you think if this was Kurt's first effort instead of Equilibrium? Lets say he had a big budget and the studio wanted a female lead and he has both scripts and wants to save EQ for a male, so he makes this in 2002 instead of EQ, with the big budget and all. Does it get a following like EQ has?
The reason I ask is because while there are a lot of EQ haters out there, there is an obvious Equilibrium fanbase, a cult really, which I suppose I'm a part of as it blew me away when I watched it (on a night when I really did not want to watch a movie, then ended up watching it twice in a row), and UV doesn't seem to have any kind of underground following at all, even now after it has been put down for so long it should be cool to like it again!
Why does this not have a similar split viewership? It seems that even EQ and Wimmer fans are not only not fans, but actually hate and put down this movie.
Oh, just to add, I like Ultraviolet, but if I let myself get swallowed by all the negativity and preconceptions and judgments and comparisons, I'd probably hate it too. I consider myself lucky to be of the personality type that is not affected by anything outside the film itself, rare, I know.
I have to admit, UV never had the emotional moments of EQ, but it had plenty of WOW moments, no?
UV - ***
EQ - ***** (one of a handful that I give 5 stars, out of at least a couple thousand I've seen)
Oh, and why is Wimmer waiting so long to direct another? He should have done Inception, or Salt..
