incredible tv show, does not adapt well to feature film

This tv show was hilaaaaaarious. Such a great mock up of afterschool specials and overdramatic morality moments in corny coming of age dramas. But it just doesn't work for me on the big screen. For one, the lower production quality really sold the after school special spoof feeling of the show, with higher production quality, it just seemed odd, it makes the overacting seem unintentional and corny instead of fitting the feel. Also, while the characters in the show had consistencies, they would change to become a vehicle for jokes and the particular "lesson" the show was going for- sometimes certain teachers would be sympathetic and offer (anti) advice, other times the same teacher would be part of the problem and not care etc. In the film, without a major "lesson" spoof of a particular brand of afterschool special, the characters just seemed thin to me and directionless. They did what they would do on the show, but it didn't build toward the same narrow "lesson" discussed in the same way, so it all just seemed arbitrary. I think it was really a format show, built so directly around these little morality lessons each week, and when the format was changed to feature film, the overall arc of the show and the overall character traits were not enough to make it work.
