This movie SUCKS. HARD.

Absolute slap in the face to fans of the show. Dull as all hell, and no memorable parts. Played like a really long, unfunny episode.

i have to agree, i loved the series it was so good! but the film did it no justice, i knew they couldnt stretch a 22min show to the size of a movie and maintain hilarity, no amount of amys celebrity friends could fix that

reply

Nope it sucks even harder than that. Lowest level of humor imaginable, so low it's not funny anymore. They should have watched the three stooges for a couple of years before attempting to imitate them, because they flopped hard. no redeeming value whatsoever. Don't watch this unless you're sick and want to throw up, but can't for some reason, and don't want to stick your finger down your throat.

Wow Editore! That review sums this stupid movie perfectly. I was thinking they could have gotten more laughs by using a fart machine set to random.

Horrifically bad move, to the point where I lost respect for every actor involved. Minus the principle he was kinda funny but other then him it was absolute garbage!

Although I didn't love it the first time around, save for Onyx Black man, I love it now! True story.

I met Greg Hollimon last summer at The Saloon in Chicago. Total doll. Why isn't he in more stuff? Me no get it. A delightful and talented man.

Go figure.

I pretty much watch the flick when it's on cable. I catch something new every time. Stew the meat man is hysterical, and you know it. "I'm trying to deal with this doorbell situation." And his facial expressions.............brilliant!

And ya gotta love the teachers' lounge.

"Eyes to the back of the room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" God -amn it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kills me!

Actually, now that I'm diggin' the movie, the series is hard to get into. I guess it depends where ya start.

wasn't even remotely funny, the closest thing to a laugh i came to is a small smile.

I could not disagree with this thread more. I saw this movie when it was released in theaters and I absolutely loved it! I should note that I had not seen the TV series on Comedy Central, nor did I know the show had a cult following. The main reason I saw it in theaters was because Ebert and Roeper gave it such a high recommendation. AND THEY WERE RIGHT!

I don't know why some people don't get the humor, but almost all of the friends/family members I show it to can't stand this movie. Perhaps they want something a little more Hollywood? It's their loss because this has to be one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, AND IT GETS FUNNIER AND BETTER WITH EACH VIEWING! All of it is pure comedy gold.

I recently started watching the series on DVD, and it's amazing. I can understand how some people were upset about the actor changes and the style change but I love the movie AND the series both. Amy Sedaris, Paul Dinello, and Steven Colbert are hilarious together. They can do no wrong.

People who feel the need to spread hate and disrespect about movies on the IMDB message board are hilarious. If you really don't like a movie THAT MUCH, why are you spending so much of your time writing about it? It's weird.

Not a complete dud, but I sure wish it had been funnier.
The lack of some original cast members wasn't good, rehashing some of the gags was weak, and the celebrity cameos were useless (but then I felt the same with most of the ones on the TV show..the Will Ferrell episode being particularly awful).
Perhaps the worst moment for me was the explaining of the father's paralytic state! WHY do this??...on the TV show this was a great unexplained surreal bit, here it was stupid and dull.
...as an addendum, I've just listened to the dvd commentary by the 3 writer/stars..they seem to be enjoying themselves remembering how funny particular shoot days were (behind the scenes), but not addressing the fact that the onscreen jokes are falling flat or scenes arent working...kind of sad.

The best way to get a good view of a movie on the imdb boards seems to be seeing if somebody wrote more than two lines of some lame hack stand up joke as a post ("This movie sucks so much donkey dick that blah blah blah etc.")

While the movie may have fallen short of the original series you have to realize that the tone of the series was VERY "television". the whole push of there being a moral to each story and lessons learned is strongly linked to the self-contained educating nature of much of high school based television it was lampooning.

That said, what became this movie is still quite enjoyable with some notable laughs. Granted, it has not exactly blown up and is most likely to be seen by hardcore fans. However I don't exactly agree with the oft repeated critique sentiment that "only the hardcore fans will enjoy this", since several of the jokes are re-hashes from the TV series, which results in much of it playing as a best-of collection. Of course fans of the series will enjoy seeing the same characters again, but they will likely be the harshest critics (altho it seems like absolutely everybody is a critic of this movie.

on a slightly related note, everybody seems to love martin & orloff, the 2002 film from the Upright Citizens Brigade collective (Walsh, Besser, Roberts, Poehler), but that movie is about as unfunny as it gets, especially considering the UCB track record in comedy.

Everybody's a critic.

Gospel truth right here.

I'm watching it right now and this is just awful. I'm about halfway through and I don't think I can make it to the end. The TV show was so incredibly brilliant, but not one thing in this movie has made me laugh yet.

The thing about a series everyone loves becoming a movie is that you hope the movie will be like the very best of the series, sustained at feature length. By that standard, this was definitely disappointing. It was at the level of one of the weaker episodes, albeit with some really good moments (like prison at the beginning, the science fair performances at the end). But it was still "Strangers with Candy," and thus better than most comedies. I'd certainly rather watch this again than endure 5 minutes of "Hot Tub Time Machine" a second time.

Amy seems to have forgotten how to play Jerri in the movie. Her outfits (minus two of them) aren't nearly as funny. And we barely get to laugh AT Jerri which was what made the show so fun!
