I hope she ended up with John Carter..

I just let myself believe she did since she moved there -- and he said to her maybe we will run into each other again..bc he wanted to get to know her more.
you could tell they both were attracted to each other..

reply

I hope not.

John Carter seemed to be a rather interesting character, while the girl had no discernible redeeming qualities. She was very critical of everthing, impolite, pushy, and her voice was annoying.

No wonder her ex-boyfriend, who wasn't the greatest anyway, took off with the first tart he found.

Mr. Carter could do a lot better.

john carter. hmmm. sounds like a real mr. excitement!

I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "... I drank what?"

reply

I see your point...John Carter and his rain forest nonsense is boring and self-righteous, but he is rich and that's the only reason why the girl is attracted to him at all.

What I should have said is "Mr. Carter could do a lot better for his money". I grant you that he is a dud in the romance department and the girl is even dudier.

reply

well he's also an 'international lawyer'! what is that?

I've only just seen this film for the first time and am taping it to DVD to watch over and over. BBC 2 only gave it a 2-star rating but I think it deserves at least 3.

I thought it was such an endearing film and one that made one think? I have to disagree about the lawyer bloke being boring, or Rebecca for that matter. She was only trying to get to the bottom of this Secret Santa thing (and it would mean losing her job/bet, etc) but you could see her starting to have some sort of feeling towards him. I'm referring to that party where he turned up and she saw him for the first time. I just thought she felt WOW! when seeing him?

If someone is trying to save the Rain Forest, isn't this a good thing?

reply

Since its a feel good TV movie, I'm pretty sure that's what was being implied, but I'm glad they didn't show it outright.
