Bardem

I just wanted to express how impressed I was by his performance in this relatively unknown film. It was powerful and realistic.

I rarely cry watching a film but this one brought me to tears, not because it was about dying but that it was about the struggle to die. the whole cast were amazing and even with subtitles as I don't speak the language, was so strong I forgot I was reading the lines. not an easy thing to do.

It gives me hope, to read a post like this. Just about restores my faith in mankind.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies, and one of the most powerful, beautiful, heart-wrenching dramas ever filmed. Bardem is a genius and one of the finest living actors, no matter what language he speaks. This might just be his finest hour, but it's hard to choose between this, "Before Night Falls", "Biutiful" and all those others amazing performances of his.

It's painful to see this movie's rating go down on this site. It's a nice database, but populated by lots sorry ignorants who would rather give a 10\10 to "The Dark Knight" and "Lord Of The Rings" than jst give a shot to a true masterpiece like "Mar Adentro". I feel sorry for those poor souls.

I tip off my hat to you for being able to recognize and appreciate the beauty of true art when you see it!

This is a 10/10 for me; we just watched it; the sub-titles do go away; the movie pull you in; I just don't know what i was watching 9years ago; frankly we only became curious of Javier Bardem since the lastest 007 movie, and started to check out his movies from the library and buy few like The Sea Inside. Biutiful is also a manadatory Bardem film; my library here in Cincinnati had 5 copies of the blue ray version just sitting there. So yes, we just got done watching it this very hour and are shocked at it's brilliance!

I've just seen this film for the first time now and it was very good.. Dark Knight and Lord of the Rings have their place and I did enjoy those films too but this film really has a great heart.

I like that they didn't really portray one side or the other as being 'right'.. Ramon gets upset about not wanting to live and we all know he has a lot of love around him.. Perhaps he could have found something to live for - he didn't need to be so cooped up in the house all the time and could go out in his wheelchair and feel love for Rosa, but I also understand his feelings of frustration and as though he's a burden on the family..

I think his sister in law supported his decision the most because all the caring responsibilities had fallen to her and I don't know whether I would have had her strength if I was in that position - I think that was why she didn't really give her opinion on what he was doing when she was asked.. She couldn't say she disagreed but she also didn't want to appear cold and heartless.

I particularly felt for the dad and the brother and the part where the dad says 'the only thing worse than your child dying before you is them wanting to' (or something along those lines) brought me to tears.. I hope they found some peace and happiness after Ramons death.

His performance was majestic, he is one of the finest actors I have ever seen onscreen. This film was extremely strong with some great supporting performances but Bardem's genius secures this as a masterpiece of film-making. All Amenabar had to do was let that camera roll and to allow Bardem's artistry to unfurl; qué bonito, qué estupendo!

What does it mean to regret, when I have no choice

Since I first saw it back in...2004 or 2005, it's been one of my all-time favourite films. I do, however, have a weak spot for Spanish movies in general, and this movie just cements that.
Bardem is wonderful, so is Rueda - she's amazing and beautiful.

Gotta agree, most stunning performance I have ever come across.

Actually, to me it was the best acting performance ever. I remember watching it on the big screen when it came out and it was amazing.

Definitely. Bardem has always been an actor that has impressed me. It is one of his very best performances and deserved to be nominated for an Oscar.
