Were flat panel tv's like the one Dick and Jane had even around in the year 2000? I don't know why I thought of this but I am just curious.

I don't think they were. I think flatscreens started to appear 6 years ago maybe.
Back in 2000 it would of been CRT or retroprojection LCD which were quite bulky.

Yes, Plasmas were around then and they were extremely expensive.
