Remakes

As a general rule I do not like remakes. Almost always the original film is best left to stand on its own. The exception is remakes of foreign films in the U.S., where sometimes the remade movie is somewhat entertaining.

This particular remake is one of the best examples of why movies should not be remade. The original is funny, has great acting by the leads and entertains. Jim Carrey is a comedic talent to be sure, but his work here doesn't come close to George Segal in the original. Neither does the writing of this remake.

Here's a sample of the dialogue from the original. It's taken out of a scene that is funnier when viewed as a whole but you should get the point.

Jane Harper: Interesting that the only two jobs you think I am qualified for are a secretary and a prostitute.
Dick Harper: You're not qualified to be a secretary
