Beyond Awful

There is little doubt that each and every cast member can point to this film as the worst on their respective resume. An embarrassment to all involved.

I had seen the preview and thought, man that looks pretty bad, but then I heard a few people talk about how absolutely hilarious it was so I gave it a chance. Bad mistake. Mean-spirited filled with off-putting characters. For a movie like this to work, you need to LIKE or at least understand the main characters. The only thing I thought was very funny in the movie was the Taboo scene where Jon Favreau's character and his wife blow every one else away...Mexican dude--Ricardo Montalban. That was funny.

reply

The movie started off well but the last half hour was dire.

reply

I agree, but I think it went south right after the TV reporter appeared. I actually enjoyed the first fifteen minutes, when they were just role playing and lying to their families.

reply

I totally agree. This movie was horribly unfunny and mean spirited. The only thing I enjoyed about it was Jon Favreau's character and his wife, they were hilarious.

reply

There was so much to like in this movie - I think it will age very well.

reply

Agree 100%. This movie was bad in many ways...acting, writing, editing, directing...you name it, it sucked. Plus, Reese Witherspoon looks like she has already hit the wall based on her appearance in this movie.

reply

Agreed - worst movie I have ever seen. Like someone else said "the worst of their careers". There was not ONE laughable moment in the whole thing. Reese just collected her 20 million - have never thought she was a very good actress but didn't know she was this bad.

Agreed! I thought this movie was great! It was very funny! I was happy to add it to my Christmas collection!

reply

I thought this movie was decent, nowhere near perfect, but it did have some good laughs and some good performances. I felt it could have had more of the festive feel to it though.

This was a cute movie. Not awful at all.

reply

This movie truly was terrible, and I rarely strongly dislike movies.

The plot went nowhere, the characters were flat and one-dimensional, the laughs were few and far between, and the acting was stilted and forced. It was just all-around bad in my opinion.

reply

As was mentioned before, the taboo scene was very strongly written and well done.

The only high point of the movie. One gem in a pile of garbage. Will highly appeal to the unintelligent.

Robot out.

Beyond awful sounds like a place to post my two cents.
From the trailer I derived that much suck would be apparent.
The wife dictated that we needed a Christmas movie on Christmas and thus with its position in the PAY PER VIEW slot, it was deemed the flick to see. I should have demanded we watch my blue ray of the kid with the BB gun movie.
Boooooo! What unlikeable characters! Not bad enough to have Vince Vaughn and Robert Duvall in the movie (dont like either one), but to have everybody playing unpleasant types as well, pffft. What the hell was Tim Mcgraw doing in here? Nice to see Sissy working again but who wrote this crap?? I guess I could look up the screenwriters and mock them by name, but I wont give them the privalage of seeing their names in print again! No future perennial favorite here. Where I come from we refer to motion pictures such as this as 'TRIPE'! ;)

There are a few gems to be found even in a dismal throw-away of this ilk.

Vaughn and Favreau can always manage a few moments.

"Fullip the Tube..... Fullip the tube."

That sequence was worth the 2 hours for me.

Is Witherspoon that tiny? She's wearing 4 inch heels and barely comes up to the other actors shoulders!

reply

Will highly appeal to the unintelligent? Robot out? You're a nerd. Sorry - your insult needed to met with another insult. The movie was fun and light-hearted. I think many people can relate to the family dynamics of this movie with all the broken marriages in today's society. I enjoyed it because it didn't take itself seriously. I especially loved Orlando's family - Robert Duvall, Tim McGraw, and Jon Favreau were great!

There were just different random points being made that didn't connect. Vince and his dad connect on personality similarity, and they go inside the house and then he pops up at Reese's place. So do we assume then that he realized he didn't want to be like his dad? Or I guess the camera cuts on the toys is supposed to indicate that he remembers his childhood, and wants children? I don't know it was off.

And Reese's dad talks about how family is the most important thing and they are all together. But then, they don't tell their family that they are pregnant even, although it was their families that helped push them to be closer in the first place. There was no following through with anything. And I never thought I would see Vince Vaughn actually a little corny. Not the good corny, but the bad corny. And I always love him any movie I see him in!

Also, it seemed like Reese was a perfect angel, and Vince did a lot of selfish crap. He really pissed me off during the show, making fun of her, being so smartass all the time. So it was hard for me to like after that. I just kept thinking she should move on and find someone else completely. But I think the director wanted me to cheer for them to get back together.

It was just off. I see where they wanted to go, but it looks like it was just put together in a crappy way.

Just seen this on Sky and couldn't agree more. I cannot believe such a wealth of talented actors agreed to appear in this tripe.

I can't believe people actually found it funny. The children being violent and thuggish actually appalled me.

I'm not as dumb as you look...

These kind of topics are just too funny. Have you people never seen any real bad movies? Seriously. Four Christmases is just mediocre. To say this must be the worst film in the resume of every cast member? Oh please. If you've only seen a couple of their movies maybe.

I bought this film on DVD and me and the wife watched it on Christmas Eve night

My god, what a dire film . Truly one of the worst films of all time

TERRIBLE!
