Did this movie help Jon Voight and Angelina Jolie's relationship?

We all know Jolie was estranged from her father for a long time and at the time of this film in 2008 I believe she still was. I never understood why Jolie held such a grudge against Voight nor do I know why she didn't want anything to do with him. However, in the movie Voight's character talks about having regrets by not spending time with his family while they were younger. It looked heartfelt and I would think that scene would be very genuine to Voight in real life. Was this sort of a nod to Jolie though? Was Voight not just speaking in the movie but in real life?

Did this help them bridge their relationship since it was shortly after that they made up?
