2 problems with modern rom coms

I like the actors in this, and it's not without some entertainment value, but it has two major problems that seem to plague almost all rom coms.

1 - The 'comedy' is mostly mean spirited. Look at someone getting hurt. Isn't it funny? Let's berate the chubby girl and call her ugly. Barrel of laughs, right?

2 - The only problem these rich white people have to overcome is that their lives are nearly but not QUITE perfect. They basically have the 'drama' of will-they-or-wont-they go from just about perfect to literally flawless.

There was potential here for something better.
