I agree on the gore thing as well as on your sh.itlist. Nevertheless, "Dead Meat" still sucked big time. Low budget - ok, no problem here if the atmosphere is thrilling, "amateur" actors - ok, if they apply themselves and show at least some talent, newcomer directors - great! The genre could use some fresh blood. But a bunch of kids with hardly anything to say walking in Romeros footsteps is more than a zombie-fan could possibly bare!! Did the crew just want to credit him politely (e.g. the whole construction of the beginning, the screwdriver-to-ear-kill, the shovel-to-jaws-kill, the severing of that old fart's arm, to name just a few) or is that a sign of missing inspiration? Why not come up with something original in the first place? In sum: bad acting, no story whatsoever (the whole plot seems to be built around the killings as opposed to setting the framework for them, which I would have preferred), horrible lighting and confusing composition. With pretty damn good SFX and makeup and everything else sucking, I have a feeling that this movie has only been made to serve as a platform for showing off with guts 'n gore. That's all fine and good, but not sufficient if it wants to be zombie flick that a fan can appreciate.
