While it's more of an action thriller and less of a character study, John Wick is another stylish hit man movie that's kinda similar in execution (it also has a very memorable club scene).

Right on. For those looking for similar movies, this is definitely the best suggestion in this thread so far . The American (the one with Clooney as the assassin) would be worth checking out as well.

John Wick and this movie are nothing alike aside from a couple of scenes and the main characters both being assassins. I like John Wick, I rated it an 8 also rated this movie an 8 but for entirely different reasons. You are completely off base comparing this to Wick and giving people the wrong impression going into this movie. This is not really an action movie. It has a few scenes(the alleyway scene, and the club scene) that are "john wick esque" and even then they are more of a gritty realism vibe. This movie was more a philosophical movie to me with action and drama being a minor undertone. John Wick is a straight up action movie and he is basically kicking ass and killing the entire time. In some ways I wish Collateral was more like John Wick and less us see Vincent kill more. They spent a lot of time bsing in the movie especially the last 30 minutes.

Way off base? I didn't say "John Wick is less of a character study and more of an action thriller" for no reason. Perhaps the similarities aren't that striking (aside from the club sequences which have been compared by many), but a slick and stylish movie that features an assassin going on a night's mission? Even if the themes are completely different, it's not hard to picture a Collateral fan finding John Wick a worthy recommendation.

So you basically just agreed with me. Your the one who called the movie similar not me. Just because the two main characters are assassins doesnt make them similar. I own both movie and have watched both countless times and never at once felt like they were similar. You can draw a ton of similarities from any two movies if you are looking that hard. Pretty much every action movie(Seagal, Staham, Bond) a million others involves a nightclub and a bar. Pretty much every action movie is about some assassin/ former special ops/ hired killer or whatever. Doesnt make them alike, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend someone collateral off liking John Wick.

Collateral is a film noir film, which typically instigates slow paced drama and suspense, using various dramatic elements, such as setting (always dark, or night time... A claustrophic sense of setting), characters with dark motives and hidden agendas, and a murder or sense of mystery that drives the plot forward.

Not like Collateral, but film noir films that i like, that encompass a similiar sense of suspense are LA Confidential and Body Heat.

Have a look at the Wikipedia page in Film Noir, and it will give more examples.

Bangkok Dangerous with Nicholas Cage is pretty similar.

I'd say "No Country for Old Men." You'll recognize one actor in there from "Collateral," too.

Also, if you can see the TV series of Fargo, the season where Billy Bob Thornton is featured will really grab you!

Driving plus Assassins - Faster (2010) with Dwayne Johnson.
