Am i alone in thinking this isn't actually THAT bad?

I watched this on ITV4 last weekend expecting a right old crapfest like something Asylum dishes out, but on the whole i didn't think it was too bad at all.

Don't get me wrong it wasn't brilliant, and i did chuckle when the female soldier was getting up at the end of a scene despite being dead, but when all said and done i thought it wasn't too bad of a film, action was okay, definitly seen worse scripts and effects.

5/10 for me, nowhere near the 2/10 it is being given. I haven't seen any other of Boll's films before, is it case of that they are so god awful (as house of the dead is supposed to be) that people have marked this lower that they should because of that and his supposed "making films for tax breaks" malarky?

This movie is probably a 4.5/10... definitely not as terrible as everyone claims. The beginning chase seen was actually pretty good.

I don't understand how XXX: State of the Union gets a 4.1 rating. Ice Cube is a fat bastard who can't act or rap... yet this movie is at 2.2 rating. Makes no sense.

Maybe it is the Boll factor, this guy seems to be quite a hated figure on places like this!

I have them both aswell. 2.35 is much better and it masks out that asian chick liftin her head after shes been killed. The films not that bad, its pretty good compared to some of the crap i've seen! Its just become law to bash anything Boll does.

I think it's an alright action flick. Come on, it's an ACTION flick. Adapted from a Video Game. It's not some classic, timeless masterpiece, lol. Take it for what is is, a fun entertaining flick.

reply

The only thing good about this film is the Nightwish song on the end credits.

reply

I thought I was the only one who caught the Asian chick lifting up her head!

This film wasn't all THAT bad, though... I enjoyed bits and pieces of it... -_-

reply

Boll is disliked for making terrible translations of videogames.
His films may not be as dire as people say, but he generally ignores the source material.

What annoys me is that by making a bad adaptation of a videogame, Boll effectively ensures no good adaptation will be made.

I love it, not sure what all the hate is about.

reply

True... wasn't that bad. I would give it a 5/10.
The action-scene with the stupid music was crap.

reply

for real? if you are being sarcastic it's ok,but if not..

reply

... it's WORSE.

Normal not so good film like many others.
The Bollphobia is ridiculous.

This movie is no way a 2.2 out of 10. I'll say sure, it's not particularly good, but I've seen A LOT worse - for A LOT more money.

Basically, it's deritivative tosh. Bad acting, bad characters, and pretty lousy special effects, though they were still more convincing than Tara Reid ... plus, the story is weirdly simplistic yet impenetrable.

For me, it's a 4/10. But it wouldn't surprise me if most of the ratings on this film are from people who haven't seen it who are just the usual Boll-hating bandwagon. I only watched it to get an idea of exactly how bad Uwe Boll is, but to be honest, he's no worse than any other Hollywood hack out there.

reply

The rating doesn't mean *beep* Many people gave it 1 only because Uwe Boll made it.

reply

or because it has nothing to do with Alone in the Dark game. Unlike how it was pitched.

reply

I also don't think it was THAT bad. It was in the middle for me - 4/5 out of 10.

reply

Same here, I would rate it somewhere between 4.5 to 6.

I have to say though RE and AITD had terrible transitions from game to movies, however, at least RE movies had solid Special FX, dialogue and consistency in its own right.

reply

I'd give it a 3 out of 10, worth seeing for free on TV, but that's it.

Sadly, it's one of his better films.

reply

Nope you are not alone. The movie was not that bad.

This movie was terrible. It is one of the worst movies I ever saw, and I saw this BEFORE I even knew who Uwe Boll was. It was boring and uninteresting.

I'm watching this movie for the first time right now and it really doesn't seem that bad so far. Certain bits are hilarious because of how silly they are. Example: right at the beginning of the movie when Carnby is fighting some random guy who tries to take his rock, Carnby for some reason thinks it's a good idea to attack a police officer and steal his gun rather than ask for help. The other guy runs out of the building after Carnby, attacks the police officer for no reason at all, then continues to chase after Carnby. What's that all about? Of course Carnby is waaaaaay ahead of the other guy, so what does he do? He turns around and shoots the guy! Holy crap!

Another thing is that this movie looks really weird. I think it's the camera angles. The cute librarian and Carnby are talking about some stupid crap and they're both looking down at the table. Where is the camera? Not looking at the table with them, of course. The camera is all the way across the room, looking at them, while they look at the table. What the hell??

The film looks like it's a victim of lazy editing. In a normal movie, something like walking into a room or two people having a conversation involves changing the camera angle quite a bit. In this movie, entire scenes will be shot from just 1 angle. It gives the impression that the movie was done like Friends or Seinfeld where the room is really just a background. The general appearance of the movie reminds me of VIP, that TV show Pamela Anderson had.

This is the third worst movie I've ever seen, and not because I'm a Boll basher - this is the only movie of his I haven't enjoyed on some level.
