what about the many great British, Italian, French, Spanish, Australian, Asian, Indie movies? were any of them considered?

It's a bit like "the World Series" where only USA can participate.

some of your Hollywood top 50 villains are a joke. Surely Buffalo Bill is a bigger villain than Dr. Lecter.

If I think of absolute nasty, what about Archibald Cunningham (Tim Roth) in Rob Roy? Is he the worst quim that ever drew breath? that sword scene at the end is better than the sterilised crap Hollywood dishes up.

AFI is the American Film Institute dummy. Hence only American films.
