Alternate ending

How to easily emend that abomination the show has became with Kutcher. So it's your everyday unfunny episode with Cryer and Kutcher, and then the image becomes blurry and we see Charlie sleeping on the sofa in the living room. He wakes up clearly disturbed and Chelsea comes in from the kitchen. She asks him if he had a nightmare and he tells her what his dream was about. To what Chelsea says something like "Wow, that sounds scary, having a dream about your own death." Charlie replies: "Didn't you hear what I just said? Alan was still living here, that's the scary part!"

not bad

But (dot) (dot) (dot)

Newhart show did the same thing with their finale. I think they'd have gotten skewered if they tried the same ending.

Never heard of that show, thanks for ruining it :) Just kidding. It's not like they can't make it like this but call it an homage. That way you're stealing but get a pat on the shoulder.

Also don't forget the further this show went they leaned more on reusing either their old scripts or borrowing from others, I'm sure fans would be more than happy to have Charlie back (with Chelsea) and that "handsome" dude erased from existence, even if that meant using the same gag as a 30-years old show before did.

Bob Newhart starred in two series: The Bob Newhart Show (70s) with Suzanne Pleshette as his wife and the later Newhart (90s) with Mary Frann as his wife.

In the last episode of Newhart, he wakes up in bed and tells his wife about this crazy dream he had, but his wife is not Mary Frann, it's Suzanne Pleshette from the 70s version.

It's not like they can't make it like this but call it an homage. That way you're stealing but get a pat on the shoulder.

Okay, here's the ultimate ending but we share the credit!! Deal?

Charlie wakes up as you say, but as he's telling the story, it's Suzanne Pleshette who's next to him!

EDIT: never mind, she died in 2008.

It's not so much the situation, but also having Charlie back with his usual "my brother will never go away" jokes. If this was to be made, everybody will be a few years older than the last time we saw them. Why not Charlie and Chelsea having a family? This would be just a one time thing, not asking for a revival of the show or anything, just an ending that's much better than what we got.

So you're suggesting a new production show as a wrap-up episode?

I know the cast and fans of Married With Children were speculating for years how the last episode would play out, but Married didn't get any closure at all since it was cancelled between seasons.

reply

I'm suggesting just filming this scene, just a minute or two in length, to undo what was done with the show after Charlie Sheen left and give a happy ending of some sorts. Not a new production.

Perhaps within a few short years, easily available software may allow deepfake manipulation of real actors - to the point where you may be able to "shoot" your scene and make it nearly indistinguishable from a true filmed scene, even using actors long since departed.

reply

Alan living in Charlie's house has never been SCARY for Charlie, only irritating, so that wouldn't work.
