Was this show better early on?

I've never liked this show, but i'm catching some early eps in syndication and i'm loving it. Is this just a couple good ones or did the show not used to suck? The eps i'm used to watching are all non stop filthy sex jokes but these ones are actually about raising the kid. Charlie's actually trying, he's not some aloof cracked out cynical jerk. It's actually pretty good.

Personally, I think the early seasons were great overall.
It's a favorite of mine.

Is this a rhetorical question?
The show started out really good but declined in quality as Jake got older.

Just to update since I started actually watching this, yes, the early seasons are actually really good. Later on it becomes an endless dirty joke without a punchline.

i watched all the seasons and thought they were all watchable, but the first few seasons are classic sitcom gold.

Yes, I think that's the point i've been edging at. This show debuted at the height of sitcomdom and the early stuff is right up there with Frasier and the rest of it.

well yeah it filled a nice slot. sienfeld, friends and fraiser had just ended and we needed the next big sitcom and it ended up being the last great sitcom (i like the big bang theory but it isnt as great as everyone says)

I've watched more of that show than I care for cause it's in endless syndication and I only got the four channels. The whole show is people sitting around holding plates of food. That might be fine once a week, but when you binge a bunch of it, it's... kind of like, depressing.

The show was going down hill ever before Sheen left. That last season (half season really) of Sheen was pretty bad. The show started to slide once Charlie got engaged or married (I can't remember) to Jennifer Taylor's character
