Love or hate Charlie Sheen, you have to admit...

Charlie HARPER was hysterical. Fact is, I cannot stand Charlie Sheen, but I love his character in the show. On the flip side, I've always liked Ashton Kutcher, but I LOATHED Walden Schmidt. Not really sure why, I just found myself really missing Charlie the last three seasons of the show.

And not that it supports my point, but since I'm here...
Jake was adorable and funny as a kid, maybe the first 3 or so seasons. Once he started to grow, he was just a loser that didn't bring much to the show.

He was an under achiever........ 😊

My wife and I said the same thing. Sheen is clearly a total tool and asshat with no redeeming human qualities whatsoever. He is the worst of what a person can be.

But he was very funny and perfect as Charlie. Can't argue that.

You do realize the character of Charlie Harper mimics Sheen's real life, right? If you like Harper, then chances are you probably also unknowingly happen to like Sheen. They're pretty much one in the same. That's the way his character was written.

No opinion on Kutcher and Schmidt. It was an entirely different show when Sheen left.

I do agree with you on Jake - he was funny as the oblivious kid who learned a lot from his drunk uncle. Once his teenage years rolled around, it didn't make any sense to keep him. I'm glad they had him join the Army. He opposed Military schooling in one episode, but actually went on to make a career out of it.

At least that's one thing they got right in the final years.

I agree that Sheen's real life likely mimics very closely that of Charlie Harper. I love the character of Charlie Harper. But I also know that I would hate Charlie Harper if he was a real person that I knew.

I'm not a gangster, but I love the characters in the Godfather. Wouldn't have anything to do with them in real life though.

Charlie, Alan & pre-teen Jake WAS the show.
anything after Charlie is laaaame af

I agree the show was better with Charlie, especially when he was not in a relationship on the show. I think it dragged the show down when he shacked up with someone.

It wasn't just Charlie's departure; the writing in general got progressively worse in the later years. Considerably.

I still watch the later Kutcher reruns, and even the scenes with just Berta and Alan or Alan and Evelyn demonstrate the writing is just less funny than earlier years.

Also, I don't know if it's the actor's fault or the writing/direction, but Alan got really weird in later shows. Almost autistic in mannerisms and an almost hyperactivity about him.

In early years Alan was hysterical yet more calm and collected.

He was the best!!! Wish he hadn't left.

Charlie Sheen was the best Charlie Harper. I stopped watching the series after he left.

Agreed, artguylarry!

" Fact is, I cannot stand Charlie Sheen,"

Why is that? You never specified a reason.

Sure, he is a drug addict, but you can see him as a victim of circumstances in many ways. How young was he, when he was almost violently shoved into the superficial, glittery, drug-riddled life of the rich and aimless?

What young guy could've resisted the constant, super powerful temptations that were suddenly flying from every direction to him on a silver platter, after he lived a 'regular life' for so long?

I mean, he became a superstar very quickly, and the whirlwind was probably something he wasn't psychologically prepared to handle at a young age. He also handled all the drug stuff surprisingly well until this show started to show his drug wrinkles.

At least as a rich celebrity, he never had to do crimes to get drugs, so in that way, he wasn't as bad as some addicts would've been.

Are you sure you could've handled that level of CONSTANT, very powerful temptation on a daily basis without becoming someone some anonymous 'artguylarry' in the internet boards 'can't stand' (without naming a reason)?

I don't think he's inherently an evil guy, he just had to live a very extraordinary life, and he did his best to cope with it, and perhaps made a few bad and wrong choices along the way. I know I would probably have died in a ditch somewhere a long time ago if I had to walk in his shoes when he was at the height of his popularity.

You can't deny that he has shown strength and honesty of character, considering all the circumstances. At least he's not a liar or sneaky manipulator, he tells things as he sees them, honestly and directly, without going through social hoops or typical 'niceties' that are designed to obfuscate the truth and fool people.

You may not be able to 'stand him', but I respect him for at least being honest - and that's rare in americans, and even more rare in american celebrities. Why is Ricky Gervais celebrated for honesty, but not Charlie?
