Stripperella DVD release

Created and produced by comic book connoisseur Stan Lee (creator of Spider-Man and other Marvel superheros), Spike TV's Stripperella is a satirical cartoon like no other, with the theme song written and performed by Kid Rock and the title character modeled after Pamela Anderson herself. The DVD set includes 13 episodes.

Stripperella - Season 1 Uncensored features Pamela Anderson as the voice of Erotica Jones, a stripper-turned-superhero who fends off evil villains such as Dr. Cesarean, a plastic surgeon who gives unsuspecting women explosive breast implants; Cheapo, a frugal villain who makes his henchmen share a gun and Pushy Galore, a former genetic physicist who breeds animals with designer logos on their skin.

With the ability to land safely after jumping from tall buildings, courtesy of her enhanced hair, and her patented move called "Scissor-ella" in which she crushes the villains with her thighs, along with the lie detector implanted in her generously-sized chest, Stripperella proves to be one tough superhero unwilling to give up.

Full screen format, Dolby Digital English 2.0 Surround, closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired, and running at 5 hours 8 minutes on 2 DVDs. Priced around $20 (CAN$25 in Canada), this will arrive on February 22nd. Stay tuned, and we'll bring you cover art just as soon as it's available.

Uncut! In the TV Shows on DVD page, it says fans are saying it is in widescreen while Paramount says full screen. It would be great if it were in anamorphic widescreen but any release is better than no release.

bought this yesterday and yes it is in widescreen, but the box does say full screen.

Whoa! Check out the cover art! I don't think parents have to worry about the kiddies. The title STRIPPERELLA (and the cover image) will make them think twice about this "cartoon"!

Now I'd like to see the back cover to see if this will be widescreen. I suspect it won't be. Update: DVDAnswers.com says it's fullscreen.

The back of the DVD says full screen but it's actually presented in non-anamorphic widescreen.

Almost certainly money. The producers probably only got the broadcast license for the song to save money, or because they just didn't consider a possible DVD release down the line. So they would have had to negotiate for the DVD rights separately and Kid Rock or his people couldn't agree on terms with the "Striperella" owners. Happens all the time with music rights, because DVDs more directly "compete" with CDs and because it is a lot easier to extract a song from a DVD on your computer and save it as a perfect MP3 than it is to do the same thing with an episode recorded off of cable with a VCR or DVR. Artists (or other rights holders) who are happy to have their songs featured in a broadcast refuse to license them for DVD and the producers take what they can get, hoping they can revisit the issue later.

Regards,

Joe
