Earrings/silver things on their ears?

I've noticed some of the Blade Children have this silver thing on their ears, unlike earrings. It's not on the earlobe, but on the upper cartilege of the ear towards the middle on the outside. Some of them don't have this, but Namuri has this too. What do these mean?
