It would be for me. I wouldn't want to go through the hassle of working on the house. I wouldn't even want to tear up carpet unless I had to. But I'm lucky. We bought our first and our second houses brand new and actually got to determine just about everything in them.

People should just live in it for a month or two and see how much they "need" to change things then. I had planned on changing out my new house's crimson carpet for a favorite shade of blue, but I found that I got used to it, and now I actually prefer it.

Some of the things these hunters "HAVE to change" just seem ridiculous, don't they? I'm always thinking, wait till you're dealing with a catastrophic health issue and need money to pay bills; then we'll see how happy you are that you "retained your "standards."

I'm watching the Indiana couple now, who ended up buying the 1910 farmhouse. The guy kept saying that none of the houses were 'move-in ready', just because he didn't particularly care for one small aspect of the home.

Otherwise, all 3 houses were really nice and you could come in and just unpack. I'm like, dude, do you know what the phrase 'move-in ready'means?

reply

Yes, people have a skewed view of what move-in ready really means. It means that everything functions as it should, not that things are your style or taste. When my husband and I were about to move into our current home, it was not functional. His ex-wife had left one bathroom with tile and backer board full of holes and literally falling down into the bathtub. And the other bathroom had no walls surrounding the tub-- just the studs. So neither could be used for showering and we had to quickly redo the second shower/tub area just to use it.

It is for me. We are lazy and do not want to have to fix anything, paint, change carpet and so on. I hate the paint that is in our house now that we bought two years ago but it is do able. Not so horrible it that I can't live with it. We might get around to painting it one of these days.
