...when they go to someone's house to work, that about 90% of the time it's a woman they end up working with? What's up with that?

Interesting observation. I don't think these men are trying to hook up with the women, since most of them may not be that attractive and they take their jobs seriously. I think it could be that women are more associated with the home (since they tend to stay in their homes more often) than men. So, they know more or less about their home's problems.

I think it is the women who want the work done, and their husbands are too lazy or don't know how to do the work themselves, so their wives take it upon themselves to get it done!! I say Way to go women!

Well isn't that just the pickle on the giant crap sandwich that is my day.

Considering half of marriages don't last, maybe they're single?
That seems more logical but thanks for the vote of husbands being lazy or inept. "I say way to go women", whatever, the man did the work before he left her and now women are calling in more men to do the work again! How you could see reliance on men for home repair & maintenance as an empowerment for women makes no sense.

I have also noticed that the homeowners who introduce the problem are usually women. However, it's clear that they're not all single. For example, they will say "we just bought this house" or something else that indicates they are married.

One example is S11E12. The woman (Whitney) who wants to install a ceiling fan in her condo appears to be single. Later in the episode, a couple (Dave and Pam) has a problem with hard water. While the couple introduce the problem, and Dave is present to hear Richard Trethewey explain what "hard water" is. Dave says, "I'm off to work," and leaves his wife with Rich and "Culligan Man" Patrick Smith.

My guess is that "Ask This Old House" film segments during the week. As a result, the husbands are at work and the stay-at-home wives are at home. While that's not always the case, it does seem to be the most common situation.

I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "... I drank what?"
