Just read the book

I just read this book, really enjoyed it and thought it would make a great movie. Probably because it left me with a great visual in my head.
Wondered if there was an off-chance it bad had been done. Well lookey-here

So having read the book and assuming I can find it on DVD locally, will I be disappointed if I watch it?

I don't remember where I read it, but the writer really slammed Don and Jesse. Sorry, bub, but apparently, you weren't watching the same movie I was! Don did his usually masterful job; I was crying throughout most of it. And Jesse? His excellent portrayal of a terrified 18-19 year old, stuck in a place he never should have been, trying to cope with horrific circumstances far beyond his control, and still trying to protect the men he felt responsible for, tears at my heart for the people who had to go through that, and still today, it is going on. Their stories may never be told, but maybe someone will see this and gain a little insight into what they endure every day.

reply

O-kay.
That was helpful.
Thanks bub. NOT.

Wasn't trying to be helpful, darlin', just stating my opinion. You got a problem with that, amigo?

reply

Nope.
Just thought it would have been nice to have the question answered. Seeing as how that was why I asked it.
Your opinion was a total disconnect to me considering what I had asked. In other words, it just didn't make much sense to me.

If the question is would you enjoy the movie, I can only say I did. I haven't read the book, so I have no preconceptions as to what the movie could have been.
I just know I bought the dvd, I'm impressed with the story and the acting. It's no "To Hell and Back", but why should it be?

Okay. Thanks.
And if you ever see the book, my advice would be to read it. I enjoyed it.
BTW where did you find the DVD?

Amazon.com. Bought it used; cost about the same as the shipping. Actually, bought six of DJs movies; Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man is a hoot!

OK, started reading the book Saturday, I'm up to the beginning of the trial. One change would seem to be Tyson was older in the book (26). Not a big thing. I found that, since I saw the movie first, DJ was locked into the character in my mind, which isn't a bad thing. The book is over 800 pages, but never boring.
JUST FINISHED; Slight change as to what happened in `Nam; would have liked to see someone take the so-called doctor out in the alley, but, all-in-all, damn fine book! Guess I'll have to catch up on some of his others.
