Unlikeable Characters

I disliked all the characters. I actually wanted the wife to go to jail. The only characters that were halfway likeable were the cleaning lady and the detective and they were both minor characters.

OMG, I thought it was just me. I too, could not stand ANY of the characters, from the gate.

I am a big fan of Tom Wilkinson's, and his character was very unsympathetic. Except, in the scene when he walks into the entryway of his home and begins to sob. I guess I can attribute his character's "redeemable" moments to Tom's terrific thespian skill’s. He is a MARVELOUS actor.

What, just for once in your life can't you be serious?

Yeah, I agree. I hated most of the characters, despite the performance of the actors (Wilkinson was great). And maybe its due to my fondness of him that I hated seeing him in that kind of role. Admittedly, my favorite moment was when he finally stood up to her and told her to **** OFF! several times.

Yeah - I think the movie would have been less frustrating if Rupert Everett's character, in particular, had been more likeable. He was the character around whom the entire plot spun and he was so unengaging.

I agree, but I think that made the plot more interesting and less predictable. Sort of like "Pieces of April,"in which the mother, a cancer patient, is a b*tch rather than a saint.

All the characters, Anne, Bill and James were unlikeable. Yet, no matter his faults, I sympathized with Tom Wilkinson's character James. The other two forced him into lying to the Inspector. Anne flaunted her relationship with Bill in front of her husband. Anne made me cringe everytime she spoke. She seemed unsympathic, soft and kept saying she was sorry for everything. Whether that was their relationship from the start, we will never know. It is so wonder that James should have been glad to get rid of her.

I thought Bill Buel was obnoxious! What did Anne see in him?
