She was very elegant in this movie. I liked her wardrobe. I wish the movie was longer, though. The dvd is very bare bones, only a trailer and dir. commentary. Deserves more than that. And it wasn't on sale. I don't rent dvds, so this cost me $20. Still, it's a great movie to have in my collection. Emily Watson was awesome in BREAKING THE WAVES. Still her best work.

It always amazes me in these type of movies that a cheating wife is so well liked. If she wanted to find love or happiness then why did she not get a divorce from her husband. I find it a bit insulting to women that they must always wait for a mr. right to emancipate themselves instead of having the power within to make the change for themselves. Despite her husband issues absolutely no one takes in consideration what he went through and how bad he was hurt. but people clap and love when they feel despite who gets hurt and that cheating in most cases is wrong she is looked upon as some kind of a good person for getting what she wanted. He was a bit cold to her, even though she never really did much to let him know i still felt he should loose her, but not this way but to have been given a chance then I would have been ok with what she did. but to not divorce him and just through it in his face like she did was down right wrong.

I always like cheating wives, provided they are not the mine.

A relation outside the marriage, but during it, is more stimulating. Even for the husband (sometimes).

Agree. Emily Watson best work was BREAKING THE WAVES. Still eye-candy here.

I always thought that she was sexy but in this film she was much chunkier than in the past. Beautiful eyes for sure!

I love her work (she was the best part of this somewhat lame movie)but I agree that she seemed to have a much bigger butt/hips in this one.

i thought that she was much more attractive in "Punch-Drunk Love", but that could of been because that's how the movie wanted to portray her.

I was surprised to see a few extra pounds on her, but I'm sorry, I thought her wardrobe was drab and un-flattering. Of course, that could explain one of the "tests" that her husband unconciously set - the secretary was obviously much better suited to him but he never saw it.

I thought Rupert Everett looked dangerously thin and haggard (even before the cancer scene). He's normally fit and gorgeous but I'm a bit concerned about his health looking like that!

The movie is well-acted, has an interesting plot and is very pretty (nice clothes, cars, homes, offices). I enjoyed watching it - but if some of the disquiet noted on this thread is due to an absence of sympathy where the filmmaker apparently intends it, I share the disquiet.

I really like the three principal actors (and others--John Neville (Everett's father) has been a favorite since The First Churchills in the late 1960s in which he played John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough).

However, I find myself feeling once again (as in In the Bedroom), that Tom Wilkinson plays a deeply unsympathetic husband. Unsympathetic due to his passivity, indecision, and submission to circumstance, a combination that make him sweat excessive sympathy through his pores - and deny him the antipathy and decisive behavior he should wield toward true wrongdoers who've wrecked his life.

Furthermore, I don't agree at ALL with the actions taken by tghe three characters regarding the car accident.

I don't agree AT ALL with the wanton violation of the marriage vows - and the fact that the characters do not even risk sustained dislike from the wounded.

I don't understand why Wilkinson would go to visit Everett toward the ned - or why he woudl tell his wife of what he learned - or why he would go to see her near the end - or why he'd go to the funeral.

Yes, these are all people he knows - these are also people whose betrayal of him has left him a drunken, despairing, deeply lonely man without personal purpose. Yet there he is each time - deeply sensing once more a trembling pathos for any problem that may afflict others due to the dark conduct they've decided to engage - a conduct that crushes him.

So, the movie was highly appealing in many ways - but throughout, I'm yelling at the screen.

You must be trolling, she looks great, especially in the first scene of her; she is growing older, but to me she is very hot.
