Why it won the Palme D'Or

Sleepover garnered instantaneous praise from critics upon its initial release and has continued to enjoy success in latter years after its win of the Palme D'Or at Cannes that year. Several critics' polls had it listed in their Top Ten Films of the 00's. In Hollywood they call it "the movie that launched a thousand careers". Steve Carrell, Jane Lynch, and Jeff Garlin have all.said they owe the.meteoric rise in their careers to their exposure in Sleepover which gave each farceur a chance to display their gifts. Bree Larson says she is more proud of her performance in Sleepover than any other film she made including Room because Sleepover "required me to look deeper inside myself than I ever had before." And let us not forget the great Alexa Vega, who has since gone on to become one of Broadway's brightest luminaries in such diverse roles as Titania in Midsummer Night's Dream, Lady Macbeth, Hedda Gabler, and Martha in Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe. She has always said Sleepover was the firm foundation on which her career rests.

I used to watch this for sleepovers with my girlfriends in those days! We thought Jeff Garlin was so dreamy!
