The marriage story line doesn't make sense

Mia's dad ruled for ages without a spouse and same as her grandmother, who isn't even Royal by blood.

Her grandmother had an arranged marriage. She wasn't in love with the man but they "grew very fond of eachother", as her grandmother tells her.
As for Mia's father, I don't remember what the whole deal with his marriage was. Sorry!

It was probably going on the premise that female rulers need to be married while male rulers dont.

reply

Yeah, I'm watching it now and they said in the beginning in the court meeting that Kings don't need to be married and the Queen argues it's the 21st century and that they shouldn't have to follow such archaic rules.

I had thought it was the fact Mia was female, plus technically her father didn't rule, so even if the rule had applied to him- he did not live long enough to be King. And her grandma is a widow, so technically she was married and was now just sitting on the throne until Mia was of-age. Plus, if Nicholas's uncle had not brought up the law, there may never have been any issue made of Mia's single-status. I love her speech to the Parliament at her almost-wedding, about if they would force their daughters and granddaughters to do what they were trying to force her to do, especially in light of how well her grandma had done in the years since King Rupert had died.
