I've only watched Osama once. Guess I need a second viewing cause there are several things that I didn't understand or missed.
For example, the locks that the old man offered Osama to pick. What are they? Symbol of marriage? Is Osama supposed to wear it all the time? Where, on her feet?
In a way, the lock was a symbol of marriage. But I suspect they were the locks to be placed on the door. The Mullah kept all his wives locked up; and he magnanimously offered Osama the choice of her lock. It would be hers for life, apparently..
My read on this was that for her wedding present Osama was allowed to choose the lock that would keep her confined to her own room in her husband's house, just like all the other wives were confined behind locks in their own rooms. Because she was so young, so small, and so likely to escape she was given the biggest, strongest lock.

I disagree. She was given the biggest lock because of it's value. A lock that size cost money, a lot more than the others, and was his way of showing her that he valued her and favored her. Rather twisted but makes a kind of sense.

Seriously if I was offered a padlock of that kind in this circumstance, i would have grabbed it knocking the sicko out cold, probably killing him if I had the chance and then pegging it.
i only watched the end of the movie, because my mother was watching it all and i came out to see her but i did not understand the lock part, and futher more i did not understand the ending? did he kill himself? or just bath? and was sh dead or alive?
The husband locked his wives in their rooms when he left, so presumably they couldn't either escape or bring any lovers into the house. In the lock scene, he was letting the girl choose which lock would be on her door, as if that was some kind of gift to her. No he did not kill himself, just taking the ritual washing after sex, which meant he had just raped the girl. And yes, she was still alive.
There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. That will be the beginning.
