The Rainbow Story

The film was shot under the title 'Rainbow', Siddiq Barmak only changed the title later. The original ending had Osama passing under a rainbow and gave the film a sense of hope for the future, which the director later changed, preferring a story devoid of hope. The passing under the rainbow turns boys into girls and vice versa, which obviously ties in thematically and with the narrative. In this part of the world boys are more valuable and therefore treasured than girls.
